Meet Penelope Charlesworth

Penelope Charlesworth has over 15 years’ experience in family law, having been admitted to practice in 2005.

Penelope prides herself on her strong client relationships and ability to guide her clients through diverse and difficult family law matters, ranging from major property settlement involving multiple entities to highly complex parenting disputes. Wherever possible, Penelope assists her clients to resolve their matters without the need for Court proceedings, however she will confidently and skilfully support her clients where litigation is necessary.

Penelope started her family law career in Adelaide, where she also gained experience in other areas of law in her early years of general practice. Since arriving in Melbourne in 2014, Penelope has practiced entirely in family law, first at a mid-tier large commercial firm and then a boutique family law practice. Penelope joined Hargreaves Family Lawyers in June 2021 as Special Counsel.

With a focus to make her clients’ separation as uncomplicated as possible, Penelope works hard to ensure her clients receive a high level of service in an efficient and cost-effective way. She provides clear advice that is easy to understand and clients are comforted by her approachable, down to earth nature.

Penelope has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Adelaide University, and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Law Society of South Australia.

She is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Victoria and the Victorian Women Lawyers Association.
